This is an adaptation of a legend from the Tewa- a pueblo tribe in Southeast US. The version of the story used here comes from the book Native American Storytelling (2004) edited by Karl Kroeber, and features additional authentic songs care of Herbert Joseph Spinden’s collection Songs of the Tewa (1993). Although it is centered around a non-binary character, pronouns and terminology from the original source material are used.
