This is an adaptation of a legend from the Tewa-speaking Pueblo in the Southwest US. The version of the story used here comes from the book Tewa Tales by Elsie Clew Parsons (1926), and features additional songs care of Herbert Joseph Spinden’s collection Songs of the Tewa (1993). Although it is centered around a non-binary character, pronouns and terminology from the original source material are used.
